Windows 10 End of Lifecycle/Discontinued

Windows 10 will stop being supported on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will not provide updates or security fixes. It's important to plan an upgrade to Windows 11 keep your computers in order to keep them secure and functional. If your computer has prompted to you install Windows 11 it is best to do so as soon as possible - it is free and nothing on your computer will be changed or lost during the upgrade*. Using Windows 10 after October 2025 increases the risk of your computer getting infected or hacked. No matter what antivirus or protections you have, your files (like photos and documents) and your computer's performance cannot be guaranteed.

Most Windows 10 computers cannot be upgraded to Windows 11. The most important requirement that Windows 11 needs is a special security chip that is built into the computer called a TPM - the absence of this is the main reason why most older computers cannot be upgraded to Windows 11. This is not something that can be added to an existing computer.

It has been almost 10 years since Windows 10 was released (July 2015) and all computers sold in the last few years have come with Windows 11, so if you are still running Windows 10 then it is probably time for a new computer anyways. Fortunately, computers do not have to be expensive unless you have very specific requirements (high-end gaming, video editing, etc.). For most people a new laptop that is less than $700 is more than enough, and for those who don’t need a laptop a desktop replacement can purchased for $350. These are are approximate prices for a brand-new computer that will be able to do almost any chore you ask of it and then some. I personally use the $350 desktop replacement for my business.
